Your privacy.
What Cadre keeps about you, why, who sees it, and how you take it away.

What we keep
- Your account. Your name, your email address, the country you chose (you may leave it out), and your password, which we keep only in scrambled form.
- Your learning. Which lessons you opened, your answers and scores in checkpoints and exams, your projects, and your certificates. During an exam, a short log of when its window lost or regained focus and when text was copied or pasted, kept with that attempt (see Academic integrity).
- Your e-mails. When you ask for a link to choose a new password, we send it to your address, and we keep a short record that a message of that kind was sent to you and whether it left, for 90 days: not what it said, and never the link. We also send you a notice when your password is changed. We send nothing else by e-mail yet.
- Your orders. What you bought, the amount and currency, the date, and Paystack's reference. Never your card or bank details: they are entered on Paystack's own page and do not reach us.
- Study. The text of what you give it (a file is read and then forgotten; only its text is kept), what Cadre makes from it, your scores and flashcards, and your conversations in Ask.
- What you say on Home. The reviews, comments, likes and reports you post on the free lessons shown on your Home page.
- A log of actions on your account. When someone who runs Cadre disables an account, gives or takes away access, adjusts an exam or voids an attempt (the reason they write is shown to the candidate), a line in a log says what was done and to whom, with the email address in it. When you correct the name on a certificate, a line says which certificate, the name it was and the name it became. The log is how we answer for what we do. Closing your account swaps your address in those lines for a placeholder and takes the two names out of the correction lines; the lines stay.
- A count. How many messages you have used, so that your allowance is right.
Why
To run your account and give you access, to issue and verify certificates, to take payment, to keep Cadre safe, and to put things right when something goes wrong. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who sees it
- Paystack takes your payment, under its own terms.
- Our AI provider. To write an answer in Ask, or to make a summary, a deck or a quiz in Study, the words you send and the lesson or material they are about are sent to it. We send no more than that.
- Our e-mail provider sends the messages above. It sees your address and the words of each message, so that it can deliver it.
- The companies that host Cadre: its servers, its database and its files, and the storage behind the Code Lab. They handle your data only to provide those services.
- Video and code hosts. A lesson or a live session that plays video loads the player of its video host (YouTube, Vimeo, Loom or Cloudflare), which can see that your browser asked for it. A code program that uses GitHub reads the repository you point it at, and the account name you link.
- Other learners. A review or a comment you post on a free lesson is shown to other learners who are signed in, with your first name and the first letter of your last name (for example, Ada O.), when you wrote it, and whether you finished that lesson. Never your email address. Anyone can report it, and the people who look after the programs can hide it.
- People who run Cadre can see your account, your progress and your orders when they need to help you or keep it working. They cannot see your card details, and the screens they use do not show what you give Study or say in Ask.
- Anyone with a certificate's code or link. A certificate you earn is public to them: it shows your name, the credential, when it was issued, and a summary of what you did. Search engines are told not to list it.
How long we keep it
- What you give Study, and what was made from it, is deleted 90 days after you last use it (opening a note, making something from it or asking about it counts), or two weeks after the exam it is for if that is later, and never more than 365 days after you add it. You can delete it sooner. What was made from a whole exam goes when any of its notes goes, and conversations about it go with it. The days you studied (a date for each, nothing else) are kept so that your days in a row stay true, and go when you delete everything or close your account. Conversations about a lesson are kept until you delete them or your account is closed.
- Your account, your learning and your certificates are kept while your account exists, and certificates are kept so that they can always be verified.
- The record of the e-mails sent to you (above) is deleted 90 days after the message, and a link to choose a new password is deleted a day after it is used or runs out.
- Records of orders are kept as long as accounts and tax rules require.
Your choices
- In You, in the app, you can see what Study holds and delete all of it in one step. You can start any conversation over, and delete any message.
- You can correct the spelling of the name on a certificate, up to three times.
- To correct your details, or to close your account, write to support@example.com from the address you signed up with. Closing it deletes what you gave Study, every conversation, and everything you said on Home, takes your name and email off the account (and out of the log of actions on it) and ends your access. We keep what we have to: your orders, for accounts and tax rules, and the certificates you earned, which carry your name so that anyone can still verify them. What you did in lessons and exams stays too, on an account that no longer says who it was.
Cookies
Cadre sets a few small cookies to work and to remember your choices, and none to follow you around the web. They are listed on the Cookies and storage page.
Keeping it safe
Cadre uses an encrypted connection, keeps passwords scrambled, keeps its payment and AI keys on the server and never in your browser, and limits who can reach your records. No system is perfectly safe. If something that affects you went wrong, we would tell you.
Children
Cadre is not made for young children. If you think a child has made an account, write to us and we will remove it.
Changes, and who to ask
When this policy changes, we change the date at the top. Lorgarithm is responsible for how Cadre handles your data. Questions: support@example.com.
